The sun had set an hour before and the moon was blocked by the clouds. But in New York City, it was never dark. Serenity walked down the sidewalk, dodging people as she went. She could have easily used her shadows to go to the bar but she enjoyed seeing the citizens of NYC from time to time. She was in a newly purchased outfit. Black heels, a dark jean mini skirt, and a blue, V cut shirt. She made sure to wear her black gloves that went up to her elbows and her hair was up in a ponytail.
It was a few minutes to eight when she entered the bar. There was a small crowd but they were mostly gathered around a Tv in the corner, cheering for a game. There was faint music in the background. Serenity walked up to the counter and sat a stool. She gave the bartender her order before letting her gaze roam about the bar.
When Serenity had returned from the bank the day before, she had sifted through some memories and found that she actually had heard of The Spot before. But since she tried to not get memories from New York City civilians, there weren't many memories of him. She wondered if he would actually come. The bartender came back with her drink and Serenity took a sip.

Jonathan had showed up a good fifteen minutes early, that was just his way; he liked being early. So, he just relaxed at the bar for a bit, and then after a few minutes he went to the restroom to wash his hands, check himself, and kill time. He stepped out a few minutes later and went to the juke box. The music machine was full of a lot of trash, but then he found one gem.
A smile crossed Ohnn's lips as he inserted his coin and pressed the buttons to play his song. Social Distortion resounded through the room playing "Reach for the Sky". Jon bobbed his head to the music, and then turned about to head for the bar. There at the bar he saw a comely young woman in a very pleasing outfit. ~Very nice.~ He thought as he eyed the woman, specifically her lower attire. The doctor himself was dressed in black slacks, black dress shoes, and a white button up dress shirt. His shirt was untucked and the top button undone. His sleeves were cuffed a couple times, giving him a relaxed yet sophisticated look. His brown hair was slicked back today, whereas he usually just pushed it forward and left it be.
Ohnn's blue eyes fixed themselves on the attractive girl at the bar as he approached. He took the stool next to her, his grin unfading. "Bring me a short one, please. I don't care who." He said to the bartender. He then moved his gaze to Serenity's outfit again. "Nice." He said. "Everyone loves a good skirt." He stated, and then payed for his drink. "So," he started as he grabbed the bottle he'd been handed. "What are you drinking, Ms. Shadow?" He didn't know if the woman would recognize his voice, but he had certainly recognized her, after all she didn't look too much different in her civilian clothing.

Serenity heard the man approach and sit next to her. She simply took a sip of her drink. A smirk rose to her lips at the skirt comment but she didn't turn to see who sat next to her until she heard the nickname. She looked the normal, but handsome looking man over before responding, "Whatever my newly acquired money will buy me, Mister Spot."
Serenity starting searching through memories to see if any of the people she taken memories from had ever seen him. There wasn't much. A few who'd seen his face as they walked past him on the streets but nothing to give her a name. But, again, not too surprising, seeing that she avoided the memories of New Yorkers, though she did get the occasional one.
She crossed her ankles and smiled at the man. "The name's Serenity," she introduced. "Pleasure to meet you."

Spot took note of the smirk, and he couldn't help but smile. ~She has a nice sense of humor. That's always a plus.~ He thought to himself. She really was an interesting girl, wasn't she? "Whatever my newly acquired money will buy me, Mister Spot." "Oh, no, no. Please, Doctor." He said, first sounding like he was protesting the formal tense. He hoped this would at least make her grin grow. She really was lovely. He stared at her face, perhaps a little too long, examining it carefully. This girl had something--he wasn't sure what, but he liked it.
Ripped Shadow went on to introduce herself as Serenity. ~And a lovely name. My, my. She's something else... No!~ The Spot forced himself to stop thinking like that. After all, this girl was a baddie, and baddies were rarely trustworthy. ~One should never get involved with a fellow thief. That just seems unwise.~ He told himself. "I'm Jonathan. My friends call me John." He replied kindly and extended his hand in greeting.

Serenity found that she liked his smile. It made his blue eyes stand out. At his correction, she sighed playfully, "Forgive me. Doctor Spots." She let out a small laugh and took another sip of her drink.
Serenity was inwardly surprised with herself. She didn't usually let herself feel at ease around new people. Especially others on the wrong side of the law. Maybe it was how easy going he seemed. Or that he had a sense of humor similar to her own.
Serenity enjoyed that his name fit his casual appearance but knew that she would most likely think of him as Doctor Spots or Spotty. The nicknames were just too fun. Serenity reached her gloved hand out and shook Jonathan's. She wondered where all his spots had gone. So, fitting with her ever curious nature, once she had taken her hand back, she asked.
"So, are your spots only available with your monochromatic Twister board outfit or are you just very good at hiding them?" Serenity asked, honest curiosity in her voice.

Jonathan took another drink after shaking Serenity's hand. He smiled at the bottle, pleased by its content. It was a brand he hadn't tried before, but he would be sure to have again. He took one more sip as Serenity asked her question. "So, are your spots only available with your monochromatic Twister board outfit or are you just very good at hiding them?"
The Spot turned to her, and then took a quick glance around to make sure nobody was looking their way. He undid a couple buttons on his shirt after placing his bottle on the bar, and then spread his shirt open enough for her to see one large black spot on his chest. "I merge them." He replied. Jonathan speedily buttoned his shirt again before anyone else had the opportunity to become curious. "It makes it easier to wear everyday clothing." He said with a cockeyed grin. The master thief took his bottle in hand once more, and then decided to ask a question of his own. "Now, I must ask: how does it work?" His voice was hushed so that hopefully no one but Serenity could hear him. "Your power; it enables you to harm others by using their shadow. How is this accomplished? How does one's shadow affect the body?" Again, the scientist in him was taking over. He felt compelled to figure out this mystery that was Serenity's power.

Serenity watched Jonathan unbutton his shirt, wondering what he was doing. But then she saw the large black spot and her eyebrows raised a little. 'Interesting,' she thought. She bite back a comment about his clothing and substituted it with a sip of drink.
At Jonathan's question though, she paused. She had never found out how her power worked. Her parents had never explained how they had received theirs. She had come to her own assumptions over the years. Serenity was constantly looking through books about powers, seeing if any would explain her powers to her. If she knew more, perhaps she could find a way to rid herself of the Voice. But what little she did know, or assume, of her powers, she told Jonathan.
"I control my shadows with my mind," she started. She moved her shadow, making it creep up the side of the bar counter before it settled on the top of the counter. It moved, making shapes. "I don't know how it works. My parents had the power before me but never explained any of it to me." Her shadow retreated from the counter, going back to it's original shape. 'It doesn't help that I ran away before they had the chance to explain it.' she thought to herself.
Serenity took another sip, gathering her thoughts and letting her words have a chance to settle. "From what I've seen, your shadow can take whatever shape, though it usually follows the line of your body. I can take your shadow, twist it and change it but it won't affect you. But if I rip it, shoot it, or harm your shadow... You'll feel it," Serenity continued. She shrugged as she said, "Again, I don't know how it works. It just... does."

Dr. Ohnn was all ears as Serenity started answering. There was a short silence, and then the young meta-human continued. Jonathan took a drink just as Serenity began explaining her abilities. Though he found it all very interesting, he had to admit that he was rather out of his field on this one. Jon was a radiation specialist, not a mutant power professor. This seemed more like a topic of study for Professor Xavier, but even so, he couldn't help but be fascinated.
Ohnn watched as Serenity made her shadow morph into various shapes, simply amazed by the feat. He turned his eyes back to hers after a moment, and continued to carefully listen to her every word. "Again, I don't know how it works. It just... does." A common answer for mutants. They knew how to use their powers but rarely had any idea how they worked. Jonathan didn't have that problem, but to be fair that was because he had accidentally given himself his powers during an experiment. "Quite fascinating." He responded. "So, besides your questionable choice of employment, what do you do for fun?" He felt it was time for a change of topic before those around them picked up on what they were discussing.

Serenity gave a small smile at Jonathan's response to her explanation. With mutants being looked down on and all, she thought it felt good to have a discussion about powers with someone else. At his question, though, she paused. 'What do I do for fun?' she wondered to herself. She took another sip of her drink, to give herself more time.
'Oh, well, I try not to go insane and constantly fight off a murderous Voice in my head. Isn't that what everyone does?' Serenity almost rolled her eyes at her own sarcasm. She racked her mind, trying to come up with a decent answer that wouldn't make her sound like the lunatic she really was. But when she wasn't ridding banks of their money or making off with a diamond, she was at her private apartment, sorting through memories. But she found an answer.
"I travel a lot," Serenity said after a few moments. "Visit other cities, see sights, take pictures." Serenity rather liked taking pictures. She gave a smirk and added, "Scout out banks." She finished off her drink and turned to Jonathan. "Same question for you. When you're not Doctor Spotty, what do you do?"

The Spot sat there, eagerly awaiting Serenity's answer. However, she seemed to be having some trouble with coming up with something. ~That wasn't really supposed to be a stumper.~ The meta-human thief thought to himself. He took another drink of his beer, his eyes locked on the young woman.
"I travel a lot," Serenity said after a few moments. Jonathan involuntarily raised one eyebrow. ~That's it? That's all you came up within that span of time?~ He thought to himself. She then mentioned taking pictures, which brought a grin back to Ohnn's face. ~She has a creative side.~
"Same question for you. When you're not Doctor Spotty, what do you do?" Jon had this horrible feeling that this new nickname was going to stick, and that didn't please him. But, it could be worse--she could still be calling him Dalmatian. "Well, I enjoy working on computers, making new gadgets for fun, staying up to date on the latest science and theories...and I sound like a big nerd right now, don't I?" He started out enthusiastic, but by the last seven words or so his enthusiasm had vanished. "Oh boy. Where is that pocket protector? I know I had it around here somewhere." He jested as he looked around briefly for the aforementioned pocket protector.

Serenity had seen Jonathan's eyebrow go up when she couldn't find an answer. To most people, she wouldn't care. She wasn't one to care what others thought of her. If they thought she was strange, different, weird, what did it matter? But when another mutant gave her that look, she got abashed. Serenity turned away, looked to the bartender and ordered another drink, hiding the slight embarrassed blush.
But she turned back when Jonathan began talking of his hobbies. She had never been one for technology. She knew enough from all the memories she had gathered and the small laptop she had stolen, but wasn't too interested in it. Yet, Serenity couldn't help from letting out a laugh at Jonathan, jokingly looking for his pocket protector, her face losing the red tint.
"You only sound a little bit like a nerd," Serenity said, holding her pointer finger and thumb an inch apart. The bartender brought her the drink she ordered and she put down one of the one hundred dollar bills from the bank. She took a sip of the drink and turned to Jonathan.
"So, your tinkering with technology. Is that why you prefer to be called Doctor Spots?" she asked, a smirk on her face.

The Spot blushed just a tad when Serenity agreed with him sounding like a nerd. He knew tech-talk wasn't exactly a turn-on for most women, or even a topic of interest, but he couldn't help it. Jon was a scientist, which practically made him a nerd automatically, and thus liked talking about technology and such.
"So, your tinkering with technology. Is that why you prefer to be called Doctor Spots?" Jonathan chuckled lightly. He knew he was about to make himself sound like a bigger geek, but he couldn't just lie. "Well, you see... Uhm... I was a scientist, y'know, before... Before, you know." He hoped she'd be able to fill in the blank, because coming out and saying "before I became a super villain" never seemed to go over well in crowded bars. "I was actually a specialist in radiation." He said a bit proudly, and then he realized he wasn't really helping his image...again. "So, seen that pocket protector yet?" He asked once more as he took another look around.
The villain sighed, and then took another drink. By now his bottle was empty, so he quickly ordered another. "I'm sorry if I'm boring you with my geekiness. Fact of the matter is: I'm a rather different man at home. I'm not your typical super..." The Spot was about to say 'villain' but stopped himself when the bartender brought him his drink. "Chef." He took his drink, and then a puzzled look came upon his face. ~Super chef?~

Serenity had a little grin on her face, watching Jonathan explain. It was rather cute, how excited he got, talking about it. At his mention of radiation, her head tilted a bit to the side. "So, you weren't born spotty?" she asked, a little bluntly. All of the mutants she'd ever met, as far as she knew, had been born with their powers or at least received them when they were young. She'd never met anyone who had 'man-made' powers, so to speak. And for someone like Serenity, who would love to be rid of her powers, she didn't understand why anyone would actually want powers. Didn't everyone just want to live a normal life? "Why'd you give yourself spots?" she asked, honest curiosity in her voice.
At Jonathan's apology, she shook her head. "It's fine. I don't have a big interest in technology but," she cracked a grin, "it's kinda cute how into it you are." Serenity took another sip of her drink and her eyebrows came down at 'super chef.' But she saw the bartender walk by and figured that 'super villain' wasn't the type of title to be flaunting. At least not where it was easy for people to call the cops. But she turned back to Jonathan with a smirk. "It's okay. Not all of us fit the 'super chef' stereotype." Especially not her. Serenity couldn't even be counted as a super villain. She just robbed some banks from time to time. She didn't want to be like her parents but she'd fallen into the villainous life anyway.

Jonathan arched a brow at her first question about him not being born. He wasn't sure what to make of it, but after thinking about for a little while he deciphered the meaning with the help of her next sentence. "Why'd you give yourself spots?" He had a choice to make at that point. He could go into a lengthy explanation about the entire event and what lead to it, or he could take the simple route. "It was an accident, actually--an experiment gone wrong."
Again the doctor's cheeks blushed ever so slightly when she called him cute. This was not the sort of treatment he was used to, but he was enjoying it. He managed to settle himself down, taking the red out of his cheeks. He took a drink of his beer, and then listened to Serenity's response. She implied that she didn't fit the bad-guy stereotype either, which made Jon happy. It wasn't often that he met somebody like himself in his line of work--it was refreshing.
"I mean, it's not that I don't have goals. I do. They just don't include taking over...all restaurants." He tried to keep with the 'super chef' theme, but he was having just a bit of trouble. "I'm a bit simpler than that. I just want to do my job, do it well, and maybe make a name for myself. You know, a name they'll remember after I've decided to retired. Cause frankly, taking over and ruling, that just sounds like a lot of work."

Serenity gave a nod, accepting the explanation. She half expected him to continue and explain more and was slightly happy when he didn't. She probably wouldn't have been able to keep up. She took a sip of her drink and noticed the blush on his face. Serenity debated with herself if she should comment on it, knowing that it would probably make him blush more. But she decided that she'd rather like to keep him as a friend instead of drive him off so she kept her mouth shut.
When Jonathan continued with his restaurant theme, Serenity decided to roll with it. "So, you want a five star restaurant instead of chain?" she asked, trying to keep a straight face. She managed to keep herself from smirking.
