For the eighth day in a row, Tesser attached herself to a tour group in the Now Orleans Museum of Military History. This time, it was a gaggle of children on a field trip. The day before it had been a family tour, the day before that it had been a troupe of visiting specialists, and on and on. Every day Tesser woke up in her closet and slipped out to find a group, and followed. She said very little, usually stayed close by, and listened carefully. The museum was filled with all sorts of interesting things, and every day she stayed behind after everyone else had left to play with all the shines. There were things that were long and sharp and pointy, things that went boom when you pressed buttons, things that flew on the water and went under water, and even some that flew!
Some days Tesser forgot her mission, but for a fairly long stretch - relatively speaking - she had remembered. She had to learn. And so she listened attentively to everything the tour guides said during the day, and then at night would test them out.
Today, however, she was getting bored. The tour had been dumbed down for all the kids and the blindfolded child was learning nothing new. Instead, she slipped away to her favorite room. It was a large domed hall filled with armor, swords, lances, horse armor, daggers, and more. She could name every single one by now, and had played with more than a few. Her favorite, though, was the claymore. Slipping under the velvet rope, she reached up for it, standing perilously on a pedestal, so intense she didn't hear the person behind her.

Serenity wasn't quite sure what she was doing in New Orleans. Then again, she never really knew why she was anywhere. She just kind of appeared in places, forgetting why she had gone to the city other than the fact that she was bored and could. Some could say Serenity was permanently drunk off of her own freedom, stumbling around from city to city, seeing sights and picking fights. And she was having a great time at it.
Serenity laughed a little breathlessly, panting from running the past few blocks. Behind her, the goons she had ticked off were still chasing her, shouting and causing a fuss but Serenity was a Class A coward and was much too used to running away. Her heels clacked on the sidewalk, instinctively dodging the cracks in the concrete and holes that could break someone's ankle.
Turning a corner, Serenity spotted her sanctuary, the previously named 'D-Day' museum. She grinned and sprinted for it, leaving the threatening calls behind her. As she neared the door, she slowed, catching her breath and smoothing out her outfit, which consisted of a black, much too glittery skirt that touched her knees, purple tube top and jean jacket. And of course, her black leather gloves.
It was a little too easy to slip the shadows around her like a cloak and slide past the ushers of the place. Serenity didn't feel like paying and didn't want to go on some tour. She wanted to explore and find some place to hide out for a while, hoping the goons would leave her be. Once inside, she crept past tour groups and structures, eyes taking in everything.
Finally, Serenity found what seemed to be a slightly hidden room. There weren't many people in the corridor, since all the much cooler exhibits were some place else. The shadow girl slipped into the room, silently closing the door behind her. When she turned around, letting the shadows drop, Serenity was surprised to find someone already in the room.
'A kid?'[/i] she wondered. She had seen a tour of little squirts running around but this one looked a bit different. Maybe it was the blindfold or some aura or something that the kid gave off. Serenity watched the little girl reach up for one of the numerous weapons, a claymore or something if Serenity remembered right. She watched the girl wobble atop a pedestal, fingers stretched and reaching.
"Need some help there?" Serenity asked, standing a few feet behind the kid, arms crossed and smirking. [/color]

Tesser was not really surprised at the voice behind her. Looking over her shoulder she said defiantly "No." Unfortunately, she had shifted her center of balance slightly and toppled off the pedestal, crashing to the ground. Unharmed, she looked back at the other person - a girl she saw - after a moment and said in a slightly less sure tone "Maybe."
Clambering to her feet, she walked over to where the fallen pedestal lay and began inspecting it, paying absolutely no mind to the girl. She peered all over it and rolled it around, knocking on the sides and even tasting it. Finally after a long silence, she looked back up to the strange shadow girl and beamed. "I learned something today!"
Slipping back under the velvet rope and moving to stand triumphantly in the middle of the round room she announced, "Not everything that looks like it's made of stone is actually made of stone and sometimes they look heavier than they actually are and that happens when they have hollow bits in the middle of them so when you stand on it, it falls over because it doesn't have the same gravy tea that real stone has." This said, mostly to the room at large but also to her audience of one, the tiny girl crossed her arms and raised her chin dramatically before sneezing.
She fell down unceremoniously and squeaked a little. Then, scratching her head, she licked one finger and held it up as if she were testing wind. If they weren't indoors. Concentrating, she cocked her head and smiled again. "Also, claymores aren't made out of clay."

Serenity winced a bit as the pedestal and girl crashed to the ground but didn't move from her place behind the velvet rope. She watched the girl scurry around with a raised eyebrow and a smirk growing. This kid was weird... but kind of cute in a way. She was definitely different than most kids, that was easy to see. Serenity wondered what it was that made her different. She knew most kids were rather impulsive but this girl was everywhere at once, it seemed.
Serenity listened to the girl's ramble about stones and hollow bits and, what, gravy tea? She figured that meant gravity and chuckled a bit. She winced again at the loud sneeze and found herself thinking that this kid was way too adorable, from her little squeak and smile and statement about claymores.
"Nope. Made out of metal. Someone obviously doesn't know how to properly name weapons." Serenity looked the kid over, eyes settling on the blindfold. For some reason, the blindfold reminded her of her gloves. Of how they blocked her skin from touching others, from reading memories. She felt that the blindfold was similar in some way. "So, just curious, what's your name, kid?" Serenity's shadow moved across the floor, circling the girl's, feeling it out.

Tesser giggled at the girl's response, idly cartwheeling until she stood next to her. "Silly, that's not it's name. That's just the white-person say of saying what kind it is -- which is still wrong since it's still not clay..." She trailed off thoughtfully, seemingly forgetting that there was another person next to her for a minute. Then, jumping back into the moment she said clearly "But no, his name is Fin. He's Scottish." She raised her eyebrows and nodded knowingly, tapping her nose with one finger.
As Serenity circled her, Tesser spun slowly, always watching through the blindfold, slightly cautious. "Why?" She asked suspiciously. "What's your name?"

Serenity blinked a bit in confusion at the girl's ramblings but just chuckled a bit. She glanced back over at the claymore. "Yeah, it kind of looks like Fin..." She continued watching the kid but kept looking at the door. Hopefully, those guys following her wouldn't come after her...
At the girl's question, with Serenity noticing how the child dodged the question easily, the shadow girl smirked and shrugged. "Curiosity. I'm Serenity." The tall woman clacked over to one of the larger weapons, skirt shining as she moved. She read a few of the cards, telling the information about each item. "So, are you lost or something?" she asked. She was trying to figure out why this kid was wandering around by herself.

When the girl introduced herself, Tesser stopped and squinted. Though her eyes were hidden, her whole face puckered in concentration. "Yes, you are, aren't you?" She mused to herself before smiled again. When the older female walked away, Tesser saw the shimmering of her skirt and - captivated - followed. Paying only minimal attention to the woman as she clacked around in silly looking shoes, the child reached up to finger the fabric gently. It even felt shiny!
"Hmmmm, what? Me?" She asked, distractedly before looking up. With a charming smile, she said "I'm never lost. I forget sometimes where to go, but I always know. I have a plan. Also, she looked around carefully before finishing in a whisper, "I have a janitor's closet."

Serenity blinked a bit in confusion at the girl's reaction to her name. For one so young, her words struck something in the shadow girl. She gave a smirk and put it up to the strange way children talked. As she looked around, Serenity felt a soft hand on her skirt and she looked down at the kid, who seemed fascinated. Well, a like of shiny things seemed to be something the two girls had in common.
"A janitor's closet?" Serenity repeated, eyebrows coming together. She humored the girl and shrugged. "There's a lot of useful things in those closets, I guess."
Suddenly, one of the double doors to the room began opening, voices sounding in Serenity's hearing. She cursed under her breath and grabbed the little girl's arm. She dragged the girl and herself to the shadowed side of one of the larger displays and wrapped both of them in shadows, making them practically invisible unless someone looked very closely or noticed how thick the shadows were.
"Stay quiet," Serenity commanded to the girl as two men walked into the room. They looked around, faces mean.
"Are you sure she came into the building?" one of them asked. "I'm sure of it! We need to find her or else Boss'll have our heads." The two men walked a bit farther into the room, looking to see if she was there. "Can't believe some stupid chick robbed us of that much money," one of them grumbled. Serenity smirked, her pockets heavy with the cash they were after, along with a small diamond.
Another man entered the room and motioned to the other goons. "Come on. We've searched this hallway. She ain't here." Serenity held her breath as the men started leaving, hoping the kid wouldn't talk or that they wouldn't notice them. She really didn't need to destroy anything in the museum fighting off these idiots.
